After the success of the first two parts of the saga Black Panther, it is difficult to see how Marvel Studios would not develop a third opus of the license. Letitia Wright, the actress who plays Shuri, the little sister of T’Challa, heroine of the second film, has just confirmed, in half words, that Black Panther 3 was well in the boxes.
Black Panther: huge success at the box office
In 2018, Ryan Coogler was commissioned by Marvel Studios to direct Black Panther. A new adventure about a new hero: T’Challa. The latter was introduced on the occasion of Captain America: Civil War under the guise of Chadwick Boseman. This hero well known to comic book readers, king of Wakanda, therefore has the right to his own adventure. Without surprise, Black Panther is a real cardboard. The feature film is nominated 7 times for the Oscarsand win 3 statuettes : Best sets, Best costumes and Best music. Above all, the work brings in more than $1.3 billion box office receipts.
Faced with this success, Marvel Studios is obviously looking at a sequel. But before Black Panther 2T’Challa reappears twice, in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Unfortunately, in August 2020, it is the drama. Chadwick Boseman, the star of Black Panther, dies of colon cancer aged just 43. Marvel Studios nevertheless decides to maintain Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This sequel thus comes out November 9, 2022, still directed by Ryan Coogler. This time, Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, T’Challa’s little sister, gains prominence and becomes the new Black Panther.
Towards a Black Panther 3?
Faced with the success of Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverwith its 832 million dollars in box office receipts, it is logical that Marvel Studios will launch into the production of a Black Panther 3. If at present, Black Panther 3 is not officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, and that the agenda of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is already full, it is difficult to see Marvel make a line on this license. If the plans stop for the moment in 2026 with Avengers: Secret Warsit is very likely that Black Panther 3 slips in somewhere before or after the huge juggernaut. Anyway, that’s what it says Letitia Wright, during an interview with variety, just before the 80th Golden Globes Ceremony:
I think the sequel is already in the works. You know, we’ve just had two very intense years and we need a little break to refocus and Ryan Coogler has to get back to it, so it’s going to take a little time. But we’re very excited to show you all of this.
Despite this statement by the young actress from 29 yearsMarvel Studios has not yet made any statement regarding a possible third film. But everything suggests that the project is on the right track. A statement that in any case risks making Marvel Studios cringe, which does not particularly appreciate that its interpreters short-circuit their way of communicating on their future headlines.
