Laurène Rang, living in Grosbliederstroff will represent the Moselle in the competition for the Oscar for young florists.

Concentrated gaze and assured gestures, Laurène Rang places the last flowers for a wedding bouquet planned for this weekend. At 28, the young woman will participate in the Oscar for young florists on September 18 and 19. The competition is demanding and reserved for experienced artisans.

We cannot register spontaneously like that. You must have already done a competition beforehand, because it’s a bit like a Top Chef of florists. Since I had a medal in the past, in 2014, as a bronze medalist at the regional for the best apprentices in France, I was selected to participate.

Today holder of a horticultural and market gardening baccalaureate, the vocation of this plant lover has been present since childhood.

My parents have a garden. So I always liked to scratch in the ground, to clean the flowers, the vegetables. My kindergarten assistant at the time, for the little anedcote, I pricked her little snowdrops on the way to school, and in kindergarten I already gave her flowers. And in the end it was almost all mapped out for me to be a florist.

As soon as the bouquet is finished, she begins a new one, simpler this time. For ten years she has developed her own little personal touches, all made with French flowers, cut the day before.

We always say seasonal vegetables, you have to eat in season, but unfortunately we don’t really think about flowers. And I really want to accentuate also on the dried flower which is very trendy at the moment. Dried flowers, stabilized flowers, all that is eternal roses, and plant frames without maintenance.

Six tests await him, ranging from the making of a bouquet garni to that of a floral structure. So a few days before the competition, each customer order acts as a dress rehearsal.

My preparation is over the years, I’ve been preparing for ten years in fact. The progression is in fact every day when the client comes, he will have a particular request. The challenge for me is to make this bouquet, let’s say, a little unique.

Laurène will fly to Tours in a few days. But she assures him, the stress meanwhile will stay at home.
