OSCARS – CODAa low-budget film about the complicated life of a deaf family and their hearing daughter, received the supreme Oscar award this Sunday, March 27, defying the forecasts and making many heavyweights in competition bite the dust.
The victory of this film adapted from the French success The Aries Family allows Apple TV+ to become the first streaming platform to win the Oscars in the flagship category of best feature film. Director Sian Heder won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and actor Troy Kotsur, deaf from birth, the trophy for Best Supporting Actor.
Among the other major awards of the evening, Will Smith – after having dealt an incredible slap to Chris Rock during the ceremony – won the Oscar for best actor for his performance in The Williams Method. Jessica Chastain won best actress for her role in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Jane Campion, for The Power of the Dogleaves with that of the best realization.
