“Grey and misty morning”, this is how the makeup artist Sandy Ganzer described the inspiration for the dramatic makeup of Hunter Schafer. “The night before, we had a perfect gray, foggy morning in LA and I kept thinking this looked like the exact color of her dress,” she explains. Another point of reference for Sandy Ganzer : the iconic denim look of Britney Spearsand the dusty azure eye that accompanied it, at the 2001 American Music Awards. Rick Owens“, she explains. To create her makeup, Sandy Ganzer used the grayish pigment from the Kaigan Street Waters palette by Shiseido as a base, then drew a pointed cat-eye, extending the color to the lower lash line as well. After darkening and redefining the cat-eye shape with eye shadow Poppowder in Zaa-Zaa Navy, she applied Shari-Shari Silver over the navy blue to create a “shimmering baby blue”, and intensified the lash line with Arch Liner Ink and a coat of ImperialLash waterproof mascara. “A hint of nude pink on the lips complements the stormy eye without either element taking over,” says Sandy Ganzerwho chose to finish the look with a touch of soft and subtle blush on the cheekbones and a light gloss Lacquer Ink in Mirror Mauve on the mouth. When I showed Hunter palette of looks, the first thing she said was that she loved the ‘stormy eye’ and thought it matched the colors of the dress perfectly,” explains Sandy Ganzer. “I love that without even telling her about my inspiration, she intuitively picked it up and we’re completely on the same page.”

Muse and dream collaborator, Hunter Schafer was also on the same wavelength as the dressing table Rena Calhoun. The actress’ love of Japanese manga and anime served as the starting point for her shiny hair, like fresh out of the water, a look that made the rounds of the catwalks of the fall-winter 2022-2023. “This look was inspired by the love of Hunter for anime, where we often see very interesting haircuts, with different lengths, like a kind of waterfall that reinforces this dramatic effect”, explains Rena Calhoun. “We wanted to give the look all the drama deserved, the dress helped us have fun and explore all the possibilities.”

After having made a central parting on the wet hair of Hunter Schaferthe professional applied the styling paste Virtue 6 in 1 on the lengths and used a dense boar bristle brush, to brush the hair downwards for an ultra-smooth effect. Then, for an extra dose of shine, Rena Calhoun added a veil of care oil Virtue all over the hair. This, before passing an iron on the lengths, and finishing with a cocktail of serum for split ends (virtue) and care oil, for clean separation and definition. In simpler terms, Rena Calhoun calls it a “total fantasy moment”.
