His work will have finally crossed the ocean, but to shine as a representative of the Grand Duchy. “Icarus” is the first animated film by Carlo Vogele, who is not, however, a beginner in the genre.
Originally from Luxembourg, he has already worked for eight years at Pixar in the United States, notably on the very famous “Toy Story”, but also “Brave” or “Monsters University”. He also stood out at major festivals such as Annecy for his work on several short films.
An international career which will have finally made him a prophet in his country, since the animated feature film which did not interest the Americans will finally become a co-production of the company Iris Productions with France and Belgium.
Consecration, it was chosen this year by the National Oscar Selection Commission to represent the Grand Duchy in 2023 in the category of best foreign film. (International Feature Film).
The National Oscar Selection Commission, made up in part of representatives of associations and institutions of the Luxembourg audiovisual sector, selected it “because of its artistic and aesthetic qualities as well as for its narration, which, freely inspired by Greek mythology, tells the story of the fiery youth who flies too close to the sun from Icarus’ point of view”.
Production started in 2019
Entered production in 2019, “Icare” counts among its Luxembourg team the actors Sascha Ley (Pasiphaé) and Tommy Schlesser (Astérion) for the Luxembourg voices as well as André Dziezuk (original music), Michel Dimmer (image editing) but also François Debatty (1st assistant director). In Luxembourg, the film was produced by Nicolas Steil and Katarzyna Ozga of Iris Productions.
Presented at the 2022 edition of the Luxembourg City Film Festival, the animated film has already been selected in many international festivals so far.
