In Los Angeles, here is a new stone in the Hollywood edifice: an Oscars museum, dedicated entirely to cinema. Imagined by the famous architect Renzo Piano, the place open since September 30 is intended to become “The Parthenon of the genus” in the words of Tom Hanks, board member of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. With some 390 million dollars donated by behemoths in the sector, from Disney to Warner, we find in this largest conservatory dedicated to the 7th art in North America a rich selection of 13 million photos, 250,000 films, 71,000 scenarios, 67,000 posters and 137,000 pieces of art and production.

From the outside, the Temple of the Oscars is a huge spherical vessel of glass and concrete, eerily resembling the Death Star from the Star Wars saga. Once through the doors of the museum, we discover a temporary exhibition dedicated to the designer and director. Hayao miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli with Isao Takahata. A light installation, baptized “Mother Tree” and inspired by the work “My neighbor Totoro” is one of the centerpieces of this retrospective.
