Get out of. Jada Pinkett Smith was photographed on the red carpet for the first time since her husband, Will Smithslap Chris Rock at the 94th Annual Academy Awards.
“Big shout out to @shondarhimes for helping Debbie Allen Dance Academy’s dreams come true,” said the Red table discussion co-host, 50, captioned a Sunday, April 10, Instagram snap alongside Shonda Rhimes and Debbie Allen.
The trio were on hand to celebrate the grand opening of the Rhimes Performing Arts Center. The Los Angeles-based arts venue named after the 52-year-old Grey’s Anatomy creator, will host Allen’s eponymous Debbie Allen Dance Academy. The 25,000 square foot facility offers two floors of classrooms, studios and a theater according to a description by Gensler. (Rhimes and Allen are both executive producers Grey’s Anatomy and Rhimes’ Shondaland designed Allen’s Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker documentary for Netflix.)
Pinkett Smith, who has been close friends with the 72-year-old Fame actress over the years, has donned a strapless gold dress for the red carpet.
“@therealdebbieallen said wrap it all up in gold and let the kids fill your soul❣️,” the Maryland native gushed via Instagram on Saturday, April 9, before hitting the red carpet. “Congratulations Debbie on opening your Debbie Allen Dance Academy @officialdadance! You are the legacy upon which so many other legacies will build. thanks for all you’ve done🙏🏽♥️🙏🏽.”
Pinkett Smith’s appearance on Saturday marked the first time she has been pictured since the Oscars last month. At the time, the 57-year-old man Saturday Night Live alum joked that Pinkett Smith – who he starred with in the Madagascar movies – could star in a potential G.I. Jane sequel due to his shaved head. Pinkett Smith, who battles alopecia, rolled her eyes during the show before her husband – whom she married in 1997 – punched Rock in the face.
the King Richard star, 53, has since issued a public apology and resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Earlier this week, the Academy announced that it had banned Smith from future Oscar events for 10 years.
Since the incident, Smith’s family — including Pinkett Smith — have stood by her side.
“They’re sticking together through thick and thin,” a source said exclusively We Weekly earlier this month from the “unbreakable” couple. “They’ve been through a lot together and this is just another battle for them.”
A second insider said We that the Hey Humans co-founder wasn’t mad at her hubby, though she wished he hadn’t slapped Rock. The insider noted: “He was in the heat of the moment and he was the one overreacting. He knows it, she knows it. They agree that he overreacted.
