End of the suspense: the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences has just revealed, this Tuesday, January 23 in Los Angeles, the list of nominations for the 90th edition of the Oscars. A ritual presented this year by actors Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis, who unveiled an inevitably highly anticipated selection, in this Hollywood climate completely turned upside down by the Weinstein affair and its endless turmoil. The most political works connected to feminist themes should leave with a definite advantage on D-Day.
Last year, La La Land had dominated the selection with fourteen nominations (to finally win “only” six statuettes). This year, the big favorite is The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro with 13 nominations, followed by Dunkirk by Christopher Nolan, quoted 8 times, the nugget Three Billboards: the panels of revenge, quoted 7 times, and Phantom Thread by Paul Thomas Anderson, tied with The Dark Hours by Joe Wright, who received 6 nominations each. The 90th Academy Awards will take place on March 4 in Los Angeles and will be presented (for the second time) by Jimmy Kimmel.
