Oscars 2020: date of the ceremony, nominations, presenter… All the information on the 92nd edition

As every year, the award ceremonies will punctuate the first months of 2020. The highlight, the 92nd edition of the Oscars. In 2019, the previous edition had been marked by controversy even before the start of the ceremony. Comedian Kevin Hart was chosen to present the 91st edition but had to give up following accusations of homophobia that weighed on him, after old tweets resurfaced. After several weeks of uncertainty, the Academy had finally decided that the ceremony would take place without a single presenter, a first for 30 years. Will the Oscars repeat the same device for 2020? Who will succeed Rami Malek, who won the best actor award for Bohemian Rhapsody ? Who will take over from Olivia Colman, crowned best actress for The Favorite ? All information about the Oscars 2020.

Date of the ceremony

In 2019, the Oscars took place on Sunday February 24 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. For its 92nd edition, the ceremony will be held 15 days earlier, i.e. Sunday, February 9, 2020, still inside the Dolby Theatre. With the time difference, the Oscars will take place for France on the night of Sunday to Monday. The ceremony will begin at 2 a.m. (French time) and end around 5:30 a.m. For several years, the Academy has been trying to shorten the duration of the ceremony, which once easily exceeded 4 hours.

Presenter

Like last year after the ousting of comedian Kevin Hart, the 2020 edition of the Oscars will be without any presenter. The announcement was made on Wednesday January 8 by the president of ABC. “We are extremely happy with how the show went last year“, he explained. This decision was made in agreement with the Academy of the Oscars.

TV broadcast

In the United States, the Oscars will be broadcast again on ABC: the American channel holds the rights to the ceremony until 2028. In France, as usual, Canal + will take care of the encrypted broadcast. Laurent Weil and Didier Allouch will be on the red carpet to interview the stars before they enter the Dolby Theater, from 11:30 p.m., then for comments on the event. It will also be possible to watch the Oscars in streaming for MyCanal subscribers on computers, tablets and smartphones.
