Iinitially scheduled for February 28 of this year, the 93rd edition of the Oscars finally took place after two months of delay.
Closures of cinemas and momentary or even definitive stoppages of filming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, did not prevent the actual holding of the 2021 Oscars ceremony.

Context of the event
The cinematographic world has had to face, like several other sectors, the global health crisis. Despite the pandemic, cinema professionals have been able to adapt and have continued to express their talents through various achievements in 2020.
It is this determination and this resilience that were held to reward the illustrious members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) on April 25, at Union Station in Los Angeles, United States.
The 2021 edition: peak and concentration of changes since 1927
The 2021 Oscars ceremony was particularly redesigned by AMPAS and was very special. It was already the fourth time in its history that the awards ceremony in the film universe was postponed (in 1938, 1968, 1981 and in 2021). But the following modifications will be noted in addition:
- Extension of the eligibility period. All films released between 1er January 2020 and February 28, 2021;
- Running of the event at Los Angeles train station and simultaneously in ancillary locations by satellite link (Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Paris, London);
- Eligibility of films released on VOD (Videos on demand);
- Eligibility of animated films;
- 60% original music at least for the score of a film;
- 80% new music at least for franchise movies and series;
- Association of the best sound mixing and best sound editing categories giving the best sound category;
- Opening of the preliminary vote for the best international feature film to all voting members of the academy.

- Best makeup and hairstyle category: Matiki Anoff, Mia Neal, Larry Cherry (Ma Rainey’s Blues)
- Best Cinematography Category: Erik Messerschmidt (Mank)
- Best Editing Category: Mikkel E. Nielsen (Sound of Metal)
- Best sound category: Nicolas Becker, Jaime Baksht, Michelle Couttolenc, Carlos Cortes and Philip Bladh (Sound of Metal)
- Best visual effects category: Andrew Jackson, David Lee, Andrew Lockley and Scott Fisher (Tenet)
The 2021 Oscars: a ceremony that kept all of its promises!
