Ready for the Oscars

Even if he has already walked the red carpet of the Oscars several times in the past, the Quebec producer Roger Frappier does not hold in place two days before the big night. And we can easily understand why: the drama The power of the dogwhich he co-produced, could very well win several major awards, including Best Picture.

At the end of the line from Los Angeles, Roger Frappier says he is deeply happy to have the chance to experience an Oscar race as thrilling as that of the power of the dog.

Since January, the drama directed by filmmaker Jane Campion (The piano lesson) won top honors at the majority of pre-Oscar galas (Golden Globes, BAFTA, Critics Choice Awards…), as well as at award ceremonies organized by American professional guilds. The power of the dog is also the film with the most Oscar nominations this year, with 12.

“The Oscars, for us, is the crowning achievement of an exceptional career,” said Roger Frappier in an interview with Newspaper.

“I am very happy to be able to experience this and to have had the chance to work with Jane Campion. She has become a great friend. What gives us particular pleasure is that the members of the Academy of Oscars have recognized the qualities of the film at all levels. We are nominated for the prizes for best film and best direction, but the four actors are also nominated, as are the music, the editing, the cinematography and the artistic direction. Whatever happens Sunday night, it’s a big success and we’re going to celebrate really hard after the ceremony. »

From one party to another

Who says Oscars, says parties. For the past week, Roger Frappier has been invited to events every night to celebrate the nominations of the power of the dog. On Wednesday evening, the 76-year-old producer attended the dinner of nominees organized by the Academy of Oscars, of which he has also been a member since 1992. Last night, he was invited to an evening in honor of Canadian nominees at the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles. Other events are on the program tonight and tomorrow, before the big day on Sunday.

” It’s very nice. And on top of that, the weather is glorious this week in Los Angeles,” he adds with a laugh.

To be able to be present at all these evenings, Roger Frappier must submit to very strict anti-COVID protocols. He must test himself every day and forward the results and his vaccine evidence to the organizers of every event he attends.

“The good news in there is that they are so strict that when we arrive at a party, we know that everyone around us has tested negative”, observes the producer of The great seduction and Decline of the American Empire.

“For example, for the Netflix party after the Critics Choice Awards [il y a deux semaines], we had to send all our tests and our vaccine evidence a few hours before. We were then sent a blue ticket or a green ticket. With the blue ticket, you could not return. And with green, you could go. Everyone is very careful because no one wants COVID to ruin the party. »
