On Oscar night, the American Academy, in partnership with Madame Figaroorganized a Parisian evening dedicated to parties and cinema.

As Los Angeles rolled out its red carpet for the 94th Academy Awards, Paris celebrated the event with its very first viewing party. French actors, directors and screenwriters gathered on Sunday evening at the Blanche (the famous “rue Blanche” theater school that has become a luxury club) for an evening in tribute to Hollywood cinema organized by theoscar academyin partnership with Madame Figaro and Champagne Fleur de Miraval (that of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie). More than spectators, some participants were part of the 200 French voters at the Oscars. Among them, Florian Zeller, author and director who won the Oscar for best screenplay in 2021 for his film The Father, celebrated his first year as a member of the American Academy: “I passionately loved Drive My Car which competes in the category of foreign films. I hope he will win tonight,” revealed the author, who was unaware that, a few hours later, Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Japanese film would win the Oscar for best foreign language film.

Friends and members of the academy

Another guest of honor that evening, Eva Husson. The director of daughters of the sun, also a member of the academy, started voting for the Oscars even before voting for the Césars. A coherent commitment for the one whose new film Mothering Sunday, with Olivia Colman, Colin Firth and Josh O’Connor, has just been released in the United States.

Another personality to have been noticed by Hollywood recently: Victoria Bedos. The screenwriter of The Aries Family (released in 2014 and directed by Éric Lartigau), came to support its American remake CODA , nominated for the Oscars in three categories including, the grail, that of the best film: “I sent a message to the American director Sian Heder saying that it was brilliant, that I thought very strongly of her and that I will be in front my screen to send them all my good vibes.” The film ultimately won all three statuettes it was competing for.

Also seen on the red carpet in Paris: the director of cute, Maïmouna Doucouré, winner of the Gold Fellowship award in 2019. Awarded by the Academy of Oscars, it rewards the most promising career in cinema. The filmmaker supported this Sunday evening her two favorites of the year: Don’t Look Up by Adam McKay, and Tea Power of the Dog of Jane Campion.

Haute couture and predictions

While waiting for the launch of the American festivities, celebrities and anonymous people exchanged joyfully around the art deco bar of the place in an atmosphere animated by a live music group. At midnight, the time of the first arrivals on the red carpet of the Dolby Theater, the impatient quickly settled into the private screening room of the Blanche so as not to miss anything of the ceremony broadcast live. Comfortably seated on the sofas, insiders and moviegoers commented on the looks and haute couture dresses of the nominees, while venturing on a few predictions for the evening. While nothing predicted a slap, then tears, from Will Smith that evening, the most curious and movie buffs followed the 94and edition of the Oscars until the end of the night.
