Game Awards: Arcane nominated in the Best Video Game Adaptation category

The first season of Arcane, the League of Legends animated series created by Riot Games in collaboration with the French studio Fortiche, ended on November 20 after 9 episodes that will have convinced us from the first to the last.

Annie Awards, BAFTA, Annecy Festival or Emmy Awards, the series picked up an impressive number of nominations (and awards) throughout the yearand it continues since it has just been nominated for the Game Awards, which will be held on December 8.

Arcane against (very) heavy

If many will prefer to turn to the most prestigious awards, such as the GOTY, the Game Awards ceremony has 31 categories to reward the best games, studios, and personalities of the year. And there is one that should interest all League of Legends fans (even if on the esports side, Riot Games’ MOBA is well represented in categories such as Best esports event, Best esports team or Best esports game): that of the Best Adaptation of a Video Game.

Best adaptation

  • Arcane: League of Legends (Fortiche/Riot Games/Netflix)
  • Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (Studio Trigger/CD Projekt/Netflix)
  • The Cuphead Show (Studio MDHR/King Features Syndicate/Netflix)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (SEGA Sammy Group/Paramount Pictures)
  • Uncharted (PlayStation Productions/Sony Pictures)

Suffice to say that Arcane will come up against some very heavy stuff, in particular Cyberpunk: Edgerunners which has been able to seduce, and even those who have not played the eponymous game. The Cuphead Show is also a strong contender, and it shouldn’t be underestimated. In the end, we could already designate a winner, Netflix, which sees three of its productions named.

Waiting for a second season

Although confirmed for several months, we don’t know much about the second season of Arcane. The end of the first clearly shows
that the rift between Zaun and Piltover is sealed, but it remains to be seen what will happen once the projectile launched by Jinx at Jayce and the rest of the roosters hits the mark.

Riot Games keeps us in suspense, and we will have to wait until 2023 to finally know the rest. And we hope that one thing, that the sequel is up to the first season.

Arcane was one of the big shows of the last year, becoming one of the most watched on Netflix, as well as one of the most discussed in general on social media. Riot Games and Fortiche’s animated series won over critics and audiences alike with characters like Powder (aka Jinx), Vi, Caitlyn, and Jayce, as well as a novel visual style and narrative treatment compared to classic adaptations video games on screen.
