Indie Games Win Big at This Year’s BAFTA Games Awards Ceremony

Outer Wilds PS4 PlayStation 4

The global situation may have brought the physical ceremony to a halt, but the 2020 BAFTA Games Awards continued with a digital broadcast last night. Control and Death Stranding were the former with the most nominations – in fact, Remedy’s sci-fi thriller broke records with 12 nods. However, we hope you haven’t put any money on them; both matches came away with a single trophy each. It looks like it’s the year of the Indies, with awards split between some of 2019’s smaller and better titles.

The famed Outer Wilds came out on top, winning three categories, including the Sacred Best Game award. Disco Elysium, slated for release on PlayStation 4 this year, also picked up three trophies, including Best Music and Best Narrative. Other indie games were also winners: Untitled Goose Game won Family, Sayonara Wild Hearts won the Artistic Achievement award, and the British Game award went to Observation.

In case you were wondering, Death Stranding got the BAFTA for Technical Achievement, while Control’s award was for Martti Suosalo’s performance as Ahti the Janitor. It should be noted that Hideo Kojima also received the BAFTA scholarship award, placing him alongside the best designers in the industry.
