LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – Finally a date, but at what price?

In the whole history of pop culture, if there is a saga that we had to remember, it would be Star Wars. And that, Disney, since the takeover, has understood very well. By seizing this real goose that lays the golden eggs, the American giant has since continued to develop an entire universe around films through animated series or even collaborations such as with the famous Danish firm LEGO. The latter has notably been able to make many games in famous worlds of pop culture such as LEGO Marvel Super Heroes or LEGO: Harry Potter.

First announced during E3 2019 (formerly, so…), the game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga offers the player the opportunity to play the two trilogies of the saga and to choose at the same time to start with the one of his choice. An ambitious project, therefore, of which Warner Bros. Games boasts through notably over 300 playable characters and 23 planets to unlock gradually. The distant galaxy will no longer hold any secrets for you thanks to exploration and side quests as well as new combat mechanics and a cover system allowing you to study enemies to hit the mark.

If we only had the indication “Spring 2022” as the release date for the moment, the Warner Bros Game has communicated a more precise date as well as a six-minute video presenting more of the gameplay of the game. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga would therefore be released on April 5, 2022hoping that there are no reports yet.

Initially planned for spring 2020, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has therefore suffered reports that could be attributed to the health crisis if we did not have the information reported by the Polygon media. Traveler’s Tales employees interviewed by the media testify to a work overload coupled with pressure to deliver the game on time. A former employee even explains that they worked overtime almost all the time.

This is a gentle blackmail. If people don’t start working overtime, there are going to be problems.

Unfortunately, this corporate culture is not new and the project has only accentuated it further. Employees say the company’s decision to release new LEGO games every year was the result of “culture crunch.” But what is crunch culture? It is a question of directly or indirectly forcing developers to work on a project until exhaustion with overtime which is obviously not paid, and this for an ever shorter time. Sadly, this has become something very common in the video game industry in addition to the harassment cases that are too often at the heart of this news.

Despite the poor working conditions that the employees behind LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga suffered, the game still offers players an experience at the heart of one of the most popular pop culture sagas with action and always a dose of fun and humor like the teams of the TT studio Games know how to do it well. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is due out April 5, 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and Switch.
