The nominations for the 76th edition of the BAFTA Awards have just been announced by the British Academy of Television and Film Arts.
The American-German-British co-production by Edward Berger, In the West, nothing new adapted from the novel by Erich Maria Remarque is in the lead with 14 nominations including Best Film. The feature film which traces the poignant story of a young German soldier during the First World War has been available on Netflix since October 28.
This is the first time that a non-English language film has received so many BAFTA Award nominations.
The Banshees of Inisherin by British director Martin McDonagh with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson and the film by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All at Once each have 10 nominations while Elvis by Baz Luhrmann collects 9 and Tár by Todd Field, 5.
