Nintendo Switch Online – Everything you need to know about the add-on pack

It was during the Nintendo Direct on September 24 that the existence of the additional pack to its already existing subscription was officially revealed to us. Nintendo Switch Online. While giving us an appointment later for more details, and in particular the pricing, the Osaka firm had sketched out the outlines of this premium offer. The current subscription offers its subscribers various services. In addition to the possibility of playing online games allowing it, backups kept in the cloud and various discounts on the e-shop, they are granted access to a catalog of 58 Nes games and 49 Super Nes games. It should also be noted that people subscribing to this service obtain the right to buy Nes and Super Nes collector controllers on the Nintendo site, as well as the newly presented Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive for the sum of €49.99.

This additional pack to Nintendo Switch Online will, as its name suggests, offer additional benefits to its subscribers. The main added value will be an additional catalog of historic Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive games accessible from an application to be installed on its console. For the launch, the Nintendo 64 games offered will be nine in number:

  • Super Mario 64
  • Mario Kart 64
  • Lylat Wars
  • Yoshi’s Story
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Dr.Mario 64
  • Mario Tennis
  • Operation WinBack
  • Sin and Punishment

Nintendo should, as was the case for the Nes and the Super Nes, add other titles over the months. They have already confirmed the future presence of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, F-Zero X, Banjo-Kazooie, Mario Golf, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shard, Paper Mario or Pokémon Snap. Big N also specified that the titles would be available in North American version and 60Hz, but that certain titles would benefit from a European Pal version (in 50Hz therefore) with a choice of language. An online mode should also be present on some games not specified for the moment.

In terms of the Mega Drive catalog, fourteen titles will be present for the launch of the Nintendo Switch Online Add-on Pack :

  • Golden Ax
  • Strider
  • Musha
  • ShiningForce
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • shinobi 3
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Phantasy Star IV
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Counter: Hard Corps
  • Ristar

No additional information on possible later additions, but no doubt that Nintendo will also expand this offer in the coming months.

The additional Nintendo Switch Online pack should allow players to access additional normally paid content, starting with the one presented today for Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Happy Home Paradise. This DLC can of course be purchased separately, but by integrating it into its new subscription formula, Nintendo hopes to attract a large number of aficionados of the feel-good title, which has sold more than 31 million copies. A perfect showcase to highlight it.

Additions after all interesting, but it still lacked the date of availability as well as the price of the offer. Lack filled today since it is from October 26, 2021 that players will be able to subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Additional Pack for an amount of €39.99 per year for an individual subscription, or €69.99 for a family subscription including eight accounts. A doubling of the price therefore, because the initial subscription is offered at €19.99 per year (or €34.99 for the family subscription). For current subscriptions, Nintendo has specified that it will be possible to convert it to the global subscription integrating the additional pack, the appropriate reduction being made automatically at the time of payment. For the moment, no monthly or quarterly offer at Nintendo Switch Online + Additional Pack was not mentioned.

By October 26, Nintendo should shed light on the last gray areas around its new subscription formula and, who knows, maybe we will draw one last surprise to integrate into it.

We wish to say thanks to the author of this write-up for this remarkable content
