Nordisk Games now owns 100% of Supermassive Games (The Quarry and The Dark Pictures Anthology)

In recent months, it has been difficult to miss the multiple waves of takeovers within the video game industry. The biggest groups in the sector such as Microsoft, Sony or Embracer Group have accelerated the pace and are no longer afraid to take out the checkbook to acquire more or less important studios and thus enrich their development capacities. This is now the case for Supermassive Games, which is under the leadership of a fairly large Nordic group.

Supermassive Games acquired 100% by Nordisk Games

Nordisk Games, the Danish group owning among others Avalanche Studios (Just Cause, Rage 2), has just finalize its acquisition of the English studio Supermassive Games. Last year, the Danes of Nordisk had already acquired 30.7% of Supermassive Games, but it was finally in July 2022 that the complete takeover was concluded.

Founded in 2008, Supermassive Games has built a solid reputation and now has over 300 employees. The studio has received numerous awards for its immersive narrative games, including a BAFTA for Until Dawn on PS4. More recently, The Dark Pictures Anthology, released in 2019, has been very well received while the horror title The Quarry, released this year has been much talked about. Nordisk Games is a major group today comprising Avalanche Studios Group, Star Stable Entertainment, Nitro Games, Flashbulb Games, MercurySteam, Supermassive Games and Kogama.com. Nordisk Games belongs to Nordisk Films, which itself belongs to the largest Scandinavian media group: Egmont. Mikkel Weider, CEO of Nordisk Games also spoke about this complete takeover of Supermassive Games:

This complete takeover of Supermassive Games should not change much in the organization of the British studio. The latter should retain its independence by benefiting mainly from better financial support, greater capacities and better security to carry out its projects.
