Microsoft will host a new event dedicated to its iconic brand of Surface devices on September 22. Among the new teams, Panos Panay will present Surface Pro 8, which follows the continuation track that the company has chosen as a strategy with this product.
We should therefore not expect too many changes compared to the Surface Pro 7 and, even less, if we take the Surface Pro 7+ as a reference. Basically, the news will be focused on using the features built into Windows 11.
Surface Pro 8 specs
Considering that the Surface Pro 8 will be really similar to the Surface Pro 7+, it can be said that the following table presents the complete specifications of the device.

As we can see, the Surface Pro 8 would not use the exact same processors as the Surface Pro 7+. Indeed, Intel announced last May new 11th generation processors, which will be released throughout the fall.
It also highlights the possibility of removing the SSD unit, in case we want to delete the data after a failure or if we want to replace it with a higher one. These aren’t big innovations, but they’re a small leap from the Surface Pro 7, which was the last iteration of the device in the consumer market.
Surface Pro 8: what to expect
At the moment we have not been able to access too many Surface Pro 8 leaks. From Windows Central they let us see that it will maintain a design very similar to the current one, although it will come with some news that we we have already seen in Surface Pro X and which will benefit from the advantages of Windows 11.
For example, the screen will use rounded corners, aligning with Microsoft’s new operating system and the Surface Laptop Go. In addition, they will widen the diagonal of the panel to 12.7 or 13 inches, maintaining the size of the device and reducing the images proportionally.
We will have a new Surface Type Cover, which will have the same design used by Surface Pro X and will be compatible with the Surface Slim Pen … Which Microsoft will improve by the way with haptic input, allowing to emulate the use of a real pen, pencil or marker.
Inside the Surface Pro 8, we won’t see much improvement over the Surface Pro 7+. The device will feature the 11th generation of Intel processors and we won’t have variants with 4GB of RAM, which is understandable considering the minimum Windows 11 requirements.
With Thunderbolt 4?
Adding Thunderbolt is one of the most common requests from Surface users. According to The Verge, and as we’ve collected here, the Surface Pro 8 could be the company’s first device to feature Thunderbolt 4.
This way, Microsoft would eliminate the current USB-A and introduce USB-C with Thunderbolt. As an advantage, we could connect any third-party dock and increase the device’s capabilities with gadgets with an external graphics card.
Windows 11 as the star novelty
Surface Pro 8 says goodbye to Windows 10 and welcomes Windows 11. To do this, Redmond will integrate several features that are released with the new operating system, including dynamic refresh rate or “touch to wake”.
In this way, Surface Pro 8 would have a 90 or 120 Hz screen, which would be used only when scrolling or using the stylus, with the aim of improving the user experience and saving battery life. It’s very similar technology to the Apple ProMotion that the iPad Pro uses.
Also, when Surface Pro 8 is in sleep state, we can touch the screen to resume the device. If Windows Hello is enabled, the computer will use facial recognition to log in and bring us to the office.
As we mentioned earlier, the new Surface device will debut the Surface Slim Pen with haptic feedback. In this way, when using the pencil, you will be able to give us an experience similar to that of a real utensil.
Surface Pro 8: Price and availability
The price of the Surface Pro 8 would remain the same compared to its predecessor. Therefore, we would start from 899 euros in its most basic version, with the difference that we would have 8 GB of RAM, instead of 4 GB.
As usual, to these prices we would have to add the Surface Pen or Surface Slim Pen and the Type Cover keyboard. In the case of pencils, we would speak of 109.99 or 159.99 euros depending on the model chosen, and 149.99 euros for the keyboard.
Surface Pro 8 | price in euros) |
Intel Core i3, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD | 899 |
Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD | 1,049 |
Intel Corei 5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD | 1,349 |
Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD | 1,549 |
Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD | 1,649 |
Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD | 1,999 |
Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD | 2,499 |
Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD | 2,949 |
Surface Pro 8 would be available in the usual markets, including Spain, from October 5. This day is no coincidence, since it is the same date on which the deployment of Windows 11 will officially begin.
