A thin and light smartphone
When you take it in hand for the first time, the Oppo Reno6 5G is distinguished by its finesse and lightness, but also by its slippery shell. A real bar of soap. Suffice to say that the transparent protective shell will not be too much, even if it means saving a little in weight and thickness.
In the hands and visually, the Oppo Reno6 5G in any case returns an impression of a qualitative finish, both in the materials and in the assembly. On this point, it has nothing to envy to some smartphones flirting with 1000 euros.
Something that we appreciated on a daily basis, but also when taking the illustrative photos: the back that does not catch fingerprints.
Still talking about the back, the photo unit benefits from good integration, thus avoiding hindering the finger when holding in landscape mode or making the smartphone placed on its back too wobbly. This mini-protuberance is even completely forgotten once the protective shell is installed.
90Hz AMOLED display, no dual stereo speakers
The screen of the Oppo Reno6 responds rather well to current standards. We have the beautiful colors and deep blacks of AMOLED, the refresh rate up to 90 Hz, the punch for the front camera and the Full HD + definition. The panel is also quite bright and offers comfortable viewing angles. From the settings, you can adjust the color mode and the screen refresh rate. We will also have access to a dark mode, to a hot rate for reading (eye comfort) and to the possibility of software masking the punch thanks to a simulated black border.
On the sound side, the Oppo Reno6 5G ignores the mini-jack connection, which is not surprising given the industry’s desire for it, but also forgets the dual stereo speaker, which remains welcome in multimedia and that we expect from a certain price level. At 500 euros, we are entitled to expect this double stereo speaker.
Four photo sensors
The Oppo Reno6 5G has four photo sensors. In addition to the 64-megapixel main sensor on the back, there is an ultra-wide-angle sensor and a macro sensor. On the front, it’s a 32 Megapixel camera that is used for selfies and facial recognition for unlocking.
The photo experience is pretty average overall, considering the price segment. The absence of a dedicated sensor is felt when zooming. The macro sensor was more than dispensable, given the results obtained. Finally, we were not totally thrilled by the night mode, not respecting the colors and giving a too artificial rendering without bringing sharpness to the whole. Often times, we preferred the original photo.
Below, a photo starting from the ultra wide angle to go up to the 20x zoom:

Two photos with macro mode (“Plus / Macro”):

A 5G and dual-SIM smartphone
The Oppo Reno6 6 5G operates on the 700 MHz band dear to Free Mobile and offers dual-SIM management, thanks to two SIM slots in a drawer on the lower edge. As usual, we performed indoor and outdoor flow measurements with the free RNC Mobile and nPerf tools, available on the Play Store.
Below, flow rates obtained indoors:
And other flow rates, measured outdoors:
A responsive smartphone
Without embedding the best mobile chip of the moment, the Oppo Reno6 5G offers a nice reactivity, whether it is at the time of the ignition, the installation of a big application or the launching of a big game. good stress, we did not notice any particular toasting. In the worst case, our smartphone was a bit lukewarm.
The internal storage memory contributes to the good performance with its 465 MB / s write and 754 MB / s read indicated by the Disk Speed tool. Note that this is not extensible. The Oppo Reno6 5G does not indeed have any MicroSD card slot.
Very fast charging
With its 4300 mAh battery, the Oppo Reno6 5G will get through the day without forcing too much and will allow half a day to be considered in the case of classic use. Less obvious, however, to consider the two days without restricting yourself.
Below, a follow-up of use: departure at 2:00 p.m. with 100% and arrival the two following day at 8:48 a.m. with 4%
- 1 hour and 45 minutes of YouTube with smartphone sound
- 1 hour and 50 minutes of audio streaming with smartphone sound
- 55 minutes of play with smartphone sound
- Gmail / Twitter / LinkedIn consultation and alerts
- Short calls
- SMS
- Internet surfing
- Flow tests
- Pictures
- 8 downloads, including 1 large
- 3 app updates
- 1 hour and 50 minutes of 4G sharing
- Continuous operation of TousAntiCovid
- Always-On Display enabled
The Oppo Reno6 5G supports wired charging at 65 Watts and the manufacturer provides the appropriate charger in the box. With such power, the charges are far from being a torture.
Below, a wired charge quickly shipped:
- 2:10 p.m.: 5%
- 2:15 p.m.: 31%
- 2:20 p.m.: 54%

Android 11 with ColorOS 11.3 interface
Oppo Reno6 Pro 5G smartphone comes with ColorOS 11.3 based on Android 11 operating system.
This interface offers a few practical functions, including:
- Navigation with virtual buttons or gestures
- Advanced management of gestures and movements
- The choice to have or not the application drawer
- The shortcut sidebar
- The floating window
- The screen split in two
It also comes with applications preinstalled as part of partnerships: Netflix, Facebook, Amazon Store, Prime Video, Amazon Music, Booking, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pubg Mobile Gift Box, TikTok, AliExpress and Bigo Live. Only Neflix could not be removed.
Finally, regarding the security part, the fingerprint reader under the panel and facial recognition with the front camera worked perfectly from the start to the end of the test. No waiting time. No misses.
A 385MB update took us from the September 2021 patches to the November 2021 patches. No better as of this writing.
VERDICT:
Positioned below the 500 euros mark, the Oppo Reno6 5G does not offer a perfect experience in all respects, but a good experience nonetheless. It is thin, light, well finished, fast every day. It offers a beautiful screen, decent battery life and very fast charging. Too bad, however, that it ignores the dual stereo speaker, MicroSD extension and wireless charging. The most disappointing remains especially the photo part, too average in our opinion.
