GOOD PLAN – These French start-ups have thought about different hotel packages, advantageous in many respects and likely to change our habits. Here is our selection.
“Book 2 nights (Friday and Saturday), we offer you the one on Sunday”
Because a weekend is by nature always too short, off&away invites the traveler to make the pleasure last without breaking the bank. This online booking platform was launched in February with a shock concept: three nights for the price of two, in a selection of hotels in France. Their common point? Only 4 and 5 stars, all independent and off the beaten track. “We are not looking for completeness, rather to select places with the same quality of service, like the Relais & Châteaux at the start”, explains Gilles Dufour, the co-founder. The former managing director of Onefinestay, a luxury apartment rental platform, knows something about high-end accommodation. To guarantee the lowest rates and relieve congestion in tourist areas, off&away offers weekends in low and medium seasons. Because Corsica is never so beautiful as in April. And the hotelier in all this? He finds himself there too, the free night being compensated by the extras, from the massage to the dinner. Enough to forget, for good, the Sunday night blues!
Hotel to book: Alfred Sommier (photo above) in Paris. This private mansion near the Madeleine has belonged to the same family for three centuries. Works of contemporary art modernize the historic lounges with an all-Parisian chic, in the shade of the trees in the private garden. €660 for three nights in a Deluxe Room.
“€89 per night, all year round”
In travel too, it’s time for “antigaspi”. Created in 2019 by a former journalist, as a Guest offers unsold hotel items at a fixed price: €89 for two, no matter the day or the season. 150 independent hotels, from 3 to 5 stars, have lent themselves to the game. In addition to the attractive price, the night is embellished with extras, such as access to the spa or a wine tasting. This month, as a Guest is launching a Premium offer at €179, in more luxurious establishments. Please note: the platform plants a tree for every six nights booked.
Hotel to book: the Château d’Apigné, in Le Rheu. At the gates of Rennes, this 5-star hotel occupies a beautiful neo-Renaissance building in a 25-hectare park. Gourmet restaurant extra. €89 per night.
“0% commission, 100% solidarity”
Booking Better, a “French Booking”, allows you to book your room “directly” among 900 French hotels. After the announcement, the reservation is made on the establishment’s website. The result is a personalized welcome and a commission-free price for the customer, the company being remunerated on the subscriptions taken out by the hotels. Although most of them are 3 or 4-stars, the site lists some more opulent nuggets such as Les Sources de Caudalie, in Gironde.
Hotel to book: La Farandole, in Sanary-sur-Mer. This 4-star waterfront hotel enjoys an exceptional location, overlooking the beach. Its modern rooms open onto balconies with a sea view. From €200 per night.
