Crimson desert's $200m success proves appetite for sandbox games

Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, believes Pearl Abyss' open world action adventure Crimson Desert has earned $200 million in sales across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms in just under two weeks.

Ps5 contributes $75 million alone

Elliott's analysis reveals a surprising $75 million of that total came from PlayStation 5 sales, a significant portion of the overall haul.

This massive commercial success comes as a vindication for Pearl Abyss, whose initial stock price plummeted after Crimson Desert received a lukewarm Metacritic score in the high 70s. However, as player sentiment improved and sales skyrocketed, the company's share price rebounded.

Notably, 38% of PS5 Crimson Desert players have also played Dragon's Dogma 2, indicating a higher level of overlap typical of games like Assassin's Creed: Shadows.
