Apatow & powell aim for country comeback: 'the comeback king' poster unveiled

Judd Apatow and Glen Powell are betting on a rural reset. Universal Pictures has dropped the first poster for their upcoming comedy, The Comeback King, slated for a February 5, 2027, release – signaling a firm commitment to this story of a country western star’s dramatic fall and potential rise.

A familiar face, new territory for apatow

Apatow, the architect behind beloved comedies like Knocked Up and The King of Staten Island, steps into directorial duties once again. But this project marks a slight pivot; while his previous work has largely resided within the urban comedic landscape, The Comeback King ventures into the world of country music, a genre ripe with narrative potential. Powell, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, not only co-wrote the script with Apatow but also takes the lead role, a move that further positions this film as a vehicle for his rising star power.

The cast boasts a compelling supporting lineup, including Cristin Milioti (The Penguin, Palm Springs), Madelyn Cline (Glass Onion, Outer Banks), Stavros Halkias (Bugonia, Tires), and Li Jin Hao (Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping).
