Bethesda Announces Patch for Oblivion Remastered, Optimizations Coming from Switch 2

Bethesda has confirmed a patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is on the way, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version now available. The PC version of the remastered game has been without a patch since July 2025 and continues to exhibit performance issues, including hitches while exploring the open world and slow performance degradation over time, as noted by Digital Foundry.

Long-Standing Performance Concerns Persist

Digital Foundry revisited Oblivion Remastered in May of this year and found similar problems. Despite a ‘mostly positive’ Steam user review rating overall, recent reviews indicate a ‘mixed’ user experience due to lingering bugs and performance issues, with one reviewer calling it “Abandonware.”

Patch Details and Fan Reaction

Bethesda stated that the upcoming patch will incorporate optimizations from the Nintendo Switch 2 version. “We've heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered,” Bethesda said in a tweet. “The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms and we will share more when we are able.” Fans have reacted positively, expressing relief after a year of silence.

Success Despite Issues

Despite the ongoing performance concerns, Oblivion Remastered has been a commercial success, having been played by over 9 million players. Bethesda contracted Virtuos to assist with the remake using Unreal Engine 5. Todd Howard, Bethesda’s development chief, expressed satisfaction with the game’s performance in December.
