Bradley cooper could helm new ocean's eleven prequel

Hollywood heavyweight Bradley Cooper is reportedly in talks to direct and star in the upcoming prequel to Ocean's Eleven, according to Variety. The potential project, set in 1960s Europe, explores the events leading up to the 2001 film starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Cooper’s potential involvement adds significant weight to the project

This development follows the departure of two directors – Jay Roach (Meet the Parents) and Lee Isaac Chung (Twisters) – creating a degree of uncertainty for the film’s future. However, Cooper’s involvement could provide much-needed stability, potentially allowing production to remain on schedule and conclude before the year's end. The story reportedly focuses on a younger version of the core group of thieves, grappling with their limitations but retaining their cunning.

Clooney, who is developing another Ocean's project focusing on the older iteration of the team, has previously expressed a fascination with the idea of aging criminals retaining their wit. “There was something about the idea that we’re too old to do what we used to do, but we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me,” Clooney told Variety last year.

The original Ocean's Eleven was released in 1960, with the 2001 film serving as a successful reboot. Subsequent installments included Ocean's Twelve (2004) and Ocean's Thirteen (2007), followed by the 2018 female-led reboot, Ocean's Eight. Cooper, who made his directorial debut with A Star Is Born (2018) – which he also wrote – has since directed Maestro (2023) and Is This Thing On? (2025).
