Cambridge audio revamps minx line with modular msx system

Cambridge Audio is injecting a dose of modern design and sonic punch into its long-running Minx speaker series with the unveiling of the MSX line. But don’t mistake this for a radical leap – it’s a refined evolution, meticulously updating a proven formula.

Compact power, amplified performance

Compact power, amplified performance

The core concept remains the same: delivering remarkably spacious sound from incredibly small enclosures. However, the MSX series boasts a refreshed aesthetic, available in contemporary matte black or white finishes, alongside key technological upgrades. At the heart of the system lies Cambridge’s Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) driver technology. This innovative design marries conventional transducer movement with wave radiation, effectively expanding the driver’s coverage area while maintaining uniform output across the listening space – eliminating the need to perfectly position your speakers.

The MSX10, a compact satellite speaker, features a fourth-generation BMR driver engineered for enhanced efficiency, extended high-frequency response, and smoother integration throughout the frequency spectrum. Measuring just 8cm, it’s designed for discreet placement in smaller rooms. The MSX20, conversely, builds upon this foundation with a dedicated woofer alongside the BMR driver, providing bolstered low-frequency performance and a broadened dynamic range – ideal for larger rooms or listeners seeking a fuller soundscape. It’s a smart approach to achieving impressive sonic depth without overwhelming a space.

Complementing the bookshelf speakers are the Sub 200 and Sub 300 active subwoofers. Both are engineered to deliver impactful bass without sacrificing room acoustics. Utilizing front-facing speakers, auxiliary bass radiators, and digital signal processing (DSP), these subwoofers maintain controlled and consistent output even at higher volumes. The Sub 200, the more compact option, packs 200 watts of power into a 6.5-inch active woofer – perfect for smaller spaces where aesthetics and discretion are paramount. The Sub 300, stepping up to 300 watts, incorporates an 8-inch active woofer within a larger chassis, offering greater extension and dynamic headroom for larger listening environments.

Cambridge’s MSX system isn’t about dominating a room; it’s about delivering a believable, immersive stereo or surround sound experience – all within a remarkably compact footprint. With prices starting at just £99 for the MSX10 and £449 for the Sub 200, this is a compelling option for discerning listeners who value performance and space efficiency.

Availability is slated for April 2026, with pricing as follows: MSX10 (£99), MSX20 (£119), Sub 200 (£449), Sub 300 (£549).
