For decades, Detective Conan, also known as Case Closed, has captivated audiences worldwide. Now, Spanish fans are in for a treat: a tranche of previously unreleased episodes is finally making its way to their screens. This marks a significant moment for a series whose longevity rivals few animated properties.
A nostalgic return for a beloved anime
The anime's popularity in Spain during the 90s and 2000s cemented its place in many viewers’ childhood memories. The series, following the miniaturized detective Conan Edogawa, has consistently churned out mysteries, despite creator Gosho Aoyama's seemingly endless ability to keep the narrative going – and Conan’s return to his adult form, Shinichi Kudo, perpetually on hold. The official Spanish YouTube channel is now stepping up to fill a long-standing void.
While the dedicated fanbase often consumes anime in its original Japanese with subtitles, accessibility through streaming platforms remains crucial. For many Spanish viewers, however, a Spanish dub has always been the preferred experience. These new episodes, originally slated for release but never actually broadcast, are now being brought to light thanks to Arait Multimedia. Seven episodes are scheduled to air consecutively from April 1st to April 6th, starting at 6:00 PM peninsular time.
Not all of these episodes are canonical canon; some are filler, as pointed out by social media influencer @mikeecoMC. Nevertheless, they represent a valuable addition to the already expansive Detective Conan universe, which currently boasts nearly 1,200 episodes and 29 films. The latest film, Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, is slated for a Japanese theatrical release on April 10th, demonstrating the franchise’s continued vibrancy.
The series has shown a surprising resurgence, evidenced by recent, unexpected collaborations with other popular titles—most recently, Frieren. While the collective desire for Shinichi Kudo's eventual return to normalcy remains strong, it’s clear that mysteries—and Detective Conan—are here to stay. The enduring appeal of a brilliant detective trapped in a child’s body proves that some cases truly never close.
