Discord Resists Take-Two’s Subpoena Request in GTA 6 Leaker Investigation

Discord stated it has not yet been formally served a subpoena by Take-Two Interactive in their investigation into the source of the Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks. When a subpoena is received, Discord says it will carefully evaluate its validity and scope before responding.

Take-Two Seeks User Data from Discord

Judge Andrew L. Carter Jr. of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York granted Take-Two’s request to subpoena Discord for identifying information about users believed to be connected to the leaks. Microsoft also received a subpoena from Take-Two and has offered to cooperate.

Focus on ‘CyberLeek’ Account

Take-Two’s subpoenas are focused on the ‘CyberLeek’ account, allegedly responsible for the leaks, and request identifying information linked to user accounts within several Discord servers. One server, ‘discord.gg/darkviperau,’ linked to Australian content creator Matthew “Matt” Judge (DarkViperAU), has over 107,000 members.

Criticism of DMCA Use

Reclaim The Net, a free speech advocacy group, criticized the subpoena, arguing it’s being used to identify individuals involved in discussions about the leaks, potentially targeting users who didn’t directly upload footage.

Judge’s Subscriber Base

Matthew Judge, the creator behind DarkViperAU, has 2.27 million subscribers on YouTube and nearly 900,000 followers on Twitch. He has denied any wrongdoing.
