Grand Theft Auto 6 Will Launch Without Microtransactions or Generative AI, Rockstar Confirms

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch in November without microtransactions or generative AI, avoiding two potentially controversial practices. The announcement came during a conversation with Kinda Funny Games earlier this week, following a preview event preceding the GTA 6: Extended Look.

No Monetization or AI in the Core Game

When asked by Kinda Funny's Andy Cortez if players would be able to purchase in-game items with real-world money, Rockstar stated there would be “no monetizations in this game.” Greg Miller then directly inquired about the use of generative AI, to which the team responded that there is “no AI” used in the game. This news will likely be welcomed by the millions of gamers who have waited 13 years for the sequel.

Ultimate Edition and Exclusive Content

While the core game will be free of microtransactions, Rockstar is offering an Ultimate Edition priced at $99.99 (a $20 increase from the standard $79.99 edition). This version includes exclusive content such as cosmetic packs, cars, guns, and access to shops like the Electric Fang tattoo parlor and Stock 305 clothing store. Standard edition owners will be able to purchase an upgrade to the Ultimate Edition separately. Bonuses are integrated throughout Jason and Lucia's story, with new items unlocked as players progress.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. Further details and reveals are expected before the launch date. IGN's exclusive preview and interview offer additional insights into the game.
