Helldivers 2 gets warhammer 40k boost – bolt pistols incoming

July 30th is now officially a day of reckoning for Super Earth. Sony has confirmed a long-rumored crossover with Warhammer 40,000 for Helldivers 2, unleashing a deluge of grimdark weaponry onto the battlefield.

A bolt from the dark future

The initial reveal, delivered via a cryptic teaser video, showcased a Bolt Pistol – instantly recognizable to fans of Games Workshop’s sprawling universe. These iconic sidearms are practically synonymous with the Astra Militarum, those stalwart, if expendable, Imperial Guardsmen, and their presence in Helldivers 2 is a brilliant move.

Whispers of collaboration

Whispers of collaboration

This isn't a surprise to those paying attention. Arrowhead has been hinting at a potential collaboration for years. Just last April, production director Alex Bolle admitted the devs were “discussing, proposing stuff,” suggesting a partnership that’s been simmering beneath the surface. Johan Pilestedt, in 2024, even listed Warhammer 40,000 alongside the likes of Aliens and Terminator as a potential IP adaptation. Frankly, it was only a matter of time.

What to expect from the warbond

Beyond the Bolt Pistol, speculation is already running rampant. A Chainsword – the brutal, close-quarters staple of countless Space Marines – is almost guaranteed. The iconic Lasgun, a symbol of Imperial firepower, is a near certainty. But will they go further? A Boltgun, perhaps, though its association with the genetically-enhanced Space Marines might be a step too far for the Helldivers’ inherently tragic narrative. Don’t expect to see them sporting Cadian-style Kasrkin armor either; the Super Earth soldiers will likely be clad in more familiar, though equally battle-worn, gear.

Operation: cadian

The 30th will be more than just a date on a calendar; it's a clear signal. Super Earth needs every soldier it can get, and this crossover offers a potent, if bleak, infusion of firepower. Expect a full briefing before the drop – and brace yourselves.
