Royal honours were bestowed upon a British acting legend Tuesday, as Idris Elba officially received his knighthood from King Charles at Windsor Castle, BBC reports.

Elba's praise for youth services honoured

The 53-year-old award-winning star, known for his iconic roles as Stringer Bell in HBO's The Wire and DCI John Luther in the BBC One series Luther, was knighted for his services to young people. In 2022, Elba founded the Elba Hope Foundation.

Elba's high-profile career has spanned numerous blockbuster franchises, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe, Fast & Furious, and Sonic the Hedgehog, among many others.

The actor's path to knighthood has been closely tied to his philanthropic efforts. At 18, Elba attended the National Youth Music Theatre using a grant from the charity, which was formerly known as the Prince's Trust. This past year, he partnered with King Charles to create a Netflix documentary marking 50 years since the monarch established the King's Trust.

But Elba's most recent role, as Man-at-Arms in the upcoming Masters of the Universe, is set to bring his on-screen presence to a whole new generation of fans.
