Microsoft launches ambitious overhaul of windows 11

After months of complaints about Windows 11's performance and resource usage, Microsoft is finally taking drastic action to revamp its latest operating system. The company has announced a major update for 2026 that focuses on significant improvements to the system's speed, efficiency, and overall user experience.

Reducing memory consumption and boosting performance

One of the key areas Microsoft is addressing is the excessive use of temporary work memory, also known as RAM. The company acknowledges that many background processes can cause slowdowns, partly due to the inclusion of a more modern and heavier interface, as well as the activation of advanced services. To mitigate this, Microsoft suggests disabling certain graphics-intensive elements, like widgets or pre-installed software, but this may soon become unnecessary with the upcoming changes.

Microsoft is also targeting the Explorer's responsiveness, system performance, and the Windows Subsystem for Linux. President of the Windows division, Pavan Davuluri, emphasized the company's commitment to listening to user feedback and addressing the most pressing issues, including slower startup times for essential apps like the File Explorer and reducing unnecessary background processes to free up system resources.
