Pixar and toy story crash disney lorcana with ‘wilds unknown’ expansion

Disney Lorcana is about to get a whole lot more toy-riffic. Pixar and the iconic Toy Story franchise are teaming up for the game’s first-ever expansion, ‘Wilds Unknown,’ promising a fresh wave of cards and a significant shakeup for the trading card game community.

Six cards unveiled: a peek at the playable past

Ravenburger has already dropped six stunning cards from the ‘Wilds Unknown’ set, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the expanded lore. Fans can now get up close and personal with Sid Phillips – Toy Surgeon, a delightfully chaotic figure wielding miniature surgical tools, Alien – True Believer, a surprisingly earnest spacefarer, and the menacing Claw. But the highlights are undoubtedly the Toy Story cards themselves, each sporting a brand-new ‘Toy’ classification – a designation that fundamentally alters their gameplay mechanics.

“Cards with the Toy classification in Wilds Unknown get better the more toys you have out,” explains Levi Dodd, Senior Game Designer at Ravensburger. “It’s a snowball effect. Plus, many of the toy cards have tricks to help you play themselves or even other cards for cheaper. Think miniature repair crews automating your strategy.” Dodd’s description highlights a clever, layered system designed to reward strategic deck building focused on thematic synergy.

Sid’s twisted genius: a design revelation

The design team’s approach to Sid Phillips – Toy Surgeon is particularly noteworthy. The card’s glimmer—its visual representation of power—is consistently Ruby, reflecting his inherently unstable and experimental nature. Dodd reveals that the initial concept focused on banishing characters, even his own creations, but evolved into incorporating a second ability: when a Toy is banished, players receive lore. “It perfectly encapsulates Sid’s drive to experiment and dissect his toys,” he states. “The glimmer practically craves to rebuild and repurpose everything he touches.” The card’s mechanics, therefore, aren’t just about destruction; they’re about a twisted, iterative process of creation and destruction.

Beyond Sid, expect to see Buzz Lightyear – On the Way and the ever-popular Woody, as well as a host of other fan-favorite characters from the Toy Story universe. The ‘Wilds Unknown’ expansion, debuting May 8th at local game stores and May 15th everywhere else, isn’t just adding cards; it’s injecting a potent dose of nostalgia and strategic depth into Disney Lorcana.
