Sadie Sink has finally confirmed her role as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, revealing she had discussions with X-Men director Jake Schreier about her future within the MarvelCinematic Universe (MCU).

Sink’s Unexpected Role

The actress described the experience as a “relief” after months of fan speculation. Sink admitted she initially knew nothing about Jean Grey beyond online rumors circulating for years, having never seen the X-Men films.

She began learning about the character through conversations with Marvel executives Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito, stating the role felt like a “no-brainer.” Sink portrayed Jean Grey as a “very flawed” antagonist, driven by past trauma.

Sink shared that she was initially told she was the villain, but that her portrayal focused on the character’s justified perspective. She revealed she spoke with Matt and Ross Duffer, creators of Stranger Things, early on about the role, emphasizing their influence on her career.

Despite operating without her usual mutant team, Sink noted plans are already in place for Jean Grey’s integration into the MCU, with an upcoming X-Men film in development and casting announcements for key characters like Emma Frost and Cyclops.

She has already discussed her character’s future with director Jake Schreier.
