Forget comparisons to a direct competitor – Liquid Swords isn't trying to dethrone Rockstar Games. The studio behind the upcoming action-adventure Samson is focused on carving its own niche in the open-world crime genre, offering a more concise, focused experience than its blockbuster counterparts.

The echoes of Grand Theft Auto are undeniable, and Liquid Swords' co-founder, Christofer Sundberg, acknowledges the comparisons stemming from the game’s initial trailer. But he's quick to establish a crucial distinction: Liquid Swords understands its place in the market. “Rockstar's franchise is a phenomenon,” Sundberg stated in a recent interview with PC Gamer. “It competes against everything in the Entertainment sector. It’s like a new iPhone launch – everyone wants it, even those who don't typically play video games.”
Samson, launching April 8th, won't offer the sprawling scale and endless possibilities of a GTA title. Instead, Sundberg envisions it as a tighter, more digestible experience. He draws a parallel to classic films, noting, “There was a time when movies lasted 90 minutes, maybe two hours tops. I always go back to Die Hard, Ronin, Rambo. I believe there’s room for us.”
The game puts players in the shoes of a protagonist burdened by escalating debts, tasked with completing increasingly risky missions in a modern, open-world setting. While inspired by both Rockstar's signature formula and the Mad Max aesthetic, Samson distinguishes itself with intriguing mechanics. For instance, the police AI is designed to learn from each player’s criminal escapades, creating a dynamic and reactive gameplay loop. Realistic vehicle physics further contribute to the immersive experience.
Sundberg’s vision is clear: Samson isn't a replacement; it’s a complementary experience.
