Spider-noir races to emmy consideration with cage-led series

Nicolas Cage's latest venture, Spider-Noir, is launching on MGM+ on May 25, 2026, and Prime Video the following day, May 27. But the timing isn't just about accessibility; the series is strategically positioned to qualify for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Spider-noir aims for comedy recognition

Gold Derby exclusively reports that the show, a period superhero tale set in 1930s New York, will campaign for an Emmy in the Comedy category. This is a bold move, pitting Cage’s Ben Reilly against established contenders like Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, and Shrinking, potentially granting Cage a shot at Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series against actors like Martin Short and Jason Segel.

Co-showrunner Oren Uziel calls Cage’s portrayal of Ben Reilly “singular, deeply original.” He emphasizes the “unforgettable collaboration” with a strong ensemble cast including Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson. The series will be available in both authentic black and white and color.

The series follows gumshoe Ben Reilly (Cage) as he investigates a case that draws him into the city’s underworld and the clutches of gangster Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson) and his super-powered allies.
