Steam's hidden gem: depths of horror: mushroom debuts free on platform

Steam's free game bonanza continues with the surprise release of indie horror title Depths of Horror: Mushroom. Normally priced at $4.99, the 3D first-person exploration game is now available at no cost to Steam users until April 6th at 7:00 PM ET.

Players take on the role of a protagonist searching for mushrooms, only to stumble upon a mysterious, abandoned cabin and a labyrinthine cave system teeming with hidden dangers and jump scares. With a predominantly positive critical reception, this short and sweet horror experience promises to deliver some spine-tingling thrills.

But Mushroom isn't the only freebie hiding in plain sight. The Epic Games Store is also offering a double dose of gaming goodness, including cozy colony-builder Haven and fast-paced sci-fi shooter Hyper Echelon, both available until 5:00 PM ET. Later in the day, Epic will gift Clone Drone in the Danger Zone, a combat-heavy robot-slasher, and TOMAK: Save the Earth Regeneration.
