The Witcher 3 Expansion to Feature Return of Popular Gwent Card Game

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the upcoming ‘Songs of the Past’ expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will include more content for its popular card game, Gwent. The announcement has been met with excitement from fans who enjoyed the game’s strategic gameplay.

Gwent Returns to The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 garnered significant praise upon its 2015 release, with many citing Gwent as a key factor in player retention. ‘In Gwent, gamers clash with friends in fast-paced duels that combine skill-based play with bluffing, and careful deck construction,’ according to an official description from CD Projekt Red. The card game, initially launched within the Witcher series, was later developed into a standalone spinoff and a real-life tabletop experience.

CD Projekt Red community manager Marcin Łukaszewski confirmed the return of Gwent in response to a player’s comment on X/Twitter. He simply replied, ‘Confirmed!’ This expansion, slated for release in 2027, is described as a full-fledged add-on for the game’s story and will serve as a prologue.

Following the 2016 release of the ‘Blood and Wine’ expansion, this will be the first major expansion in over a decade. CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that The Witcher 4 is on track for a 2028 release.
