Warhammer 40k unleashes a monstrous ork stompa – prepare for battlefield devastation

Creative Assembly has just detonated the battlefield with a truly colossal addition to Total War: Warhammer 40,000 – a Stompa so immense it’s reshaping the entire concept of scale within the game. Forget subtle skirmishes; this is a declaration of war on a biblical scale.

The ork apex: meet the stompa

The ork apex: meet the stompa

During a recent livestream, the developers, led by battle product owner David Petry, unveiled the Stompa, an Ork war machine that’s less a unit and more a mobile fortress of brutal, chaotic engineering. It’s a tangled mess of scrap metal, rivets, and sheer, unadulterated Ork ingenuity – or perhaps, just brute force combined with a complete disregard for structural integrity. Frankly, it’s terrifying.

Petry was emphatic: “We really wanted to put the biggest thing that we could get away with in a Total War game.” And they’ve succeeded spectacularly. The Stompa isn’t just large; it’s a dominating presence, crushing enemy formations under its weight and spewing a hail of firepower. Seriously, this thing's got enough guns to level a small city.

The details are suitably gruesome. Crews of Orks – dozens of them, actually – scramble around the Stompa’s flanks, frantically rigging and maintaining the colossal weapons. Grot riggers, runners, and assistants swarm the interior, all contributing to this walking, shooting behemoth. We’re talking about a multi-layered assault platform bristling with enough weaponry to bring even the Astra Militarum to their knees.

The livestream showcased a particularly brutal encounter where a hapless Astra Militarum regiment attempted to obliterate the Stompa with an orbital strike – a desperate, one-shot maneuver. The Stompa, however, shrugged off the attack, its thick armor absorbing the blast with unnerving resilience. It didn't survive, of course, but the sheer audacity of the attempt underscored the level of threat this unit represents. It’s a terrifying prospect – a mobile siege engine capable of turning the tide of battle with a single stomp.

But the developers aren’t stopping there. Petry hinted at even larger units on the horizon, suggesting that Titans and even Tyranid Bio Titans could be joining the fray in future updates. The ambition is staggering. Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is already a complex and engrossing experience, but the introduction of the Stompa elevates it to a whole new level of strategic intensity. It’s time to prepare for a war unlike any you’ve seen before.
