Warner Bros. Faces Backlash Over AI-Generated Dog Podcast Promotion for 'The End of Oak Street'
Warner Bros. is facing significant criticism after partnering with a generative AI-centered dog podcast, DogPark, to promote its upcoming sci-fi film, ‘The End of Oak Street.’ The promotional video, featuring an AI-generated golden retriever named Goldie and a French bulldog named Frenchie, also included an artificial intelligence version of the film’s real-life dog star, Starbuck.
AI Promotion Sparks Outrage Online
The collaboration, announced over the weekend, quickly drew negative reactions across social media platforms including Reddit, X/Twitter, and Instagram. Viewers questioned Warner Bros.’s decision to utilize AI in a promotional campaign, with many expressing disappointment and vowing to boycott the film. Comments ranged from questioning the company’s rationale for using AI to outright condemnation of the video’s perceived tackiness and lack of effort.

Widespread Criticism and Boycott Threats
“So, this is a huge fk up,” one prominent Instagram comment stated. “I was so ready to go see this film. You’ve turned a guaranteed ticket sale into someone who just doesn’t even want to support any films you put out… Ever. Well done, I guess, was it worth it?” Reddit users echoed the sentiment, describing the promotional video as “the cheapest, tackiest looking no-effort st” and “disposable.” Numerous X/Twitter users expressed similar frustrations, highlighting the company’s decision to prioritize an unconventional promotional strategy over traditional methods.
Film Release Still Scheduled
Despite the controversy, ‘The End of Oak Street,’ starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, is scheduled to premiere in theaters on August 14th. Warner Bros. has yet to address the mounting criticism surrounding the AI-driven promotional campaign. The film also features a dinosaur story adjacent to the main plot.
