Xbox game pass: a spring offensive of titles, including 'modern warfare'

April is shaping up to be a blockbuster month for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, with a relentless stream of titles arriving across various tiers. Microsoft’s subscription service is poised to deliver a significant injection of content, ranging from beloved classics to highly anticipated new releases, potentially reshaping player engagement and driving further adoption of the platform.

A flood of additions across tiers

The momentum begins on April 8, with the PC version of the survival horror staple DayZ joining Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, Game Pass Essential, and PC Game Pass. Simultaneously, Endless Legend 2 (Game Preview) and Remedy’s intriguing FBC: Firebreak are landing in Game Pass Premium, though both are already available within Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Frontier’s Planet Coaster 2 will follow quickly on April 9, expanding access across Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass.

The pace doesn't let up. Tiny Bookshop arrives on April 10, and then, a double dose of sports management simulation with Football Manager 26 hitting PC and consoles on April 13. Notably, these titles are also building upon the existing Game Pass foundation.

'Hades ii' and a call of duty surprise

But arguably, the biggest news is the arrival of Hades II on April 14, a day already brimming with excitement. Joining it are Replaced and The Thaumaturge, both further bolstering Game Pass Ultimate and Premium offerings. The addition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on April 16 provides a nostalgic trip for many.

Then comes a genuine shocker: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (released in 2019) is heading to Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass on April 17. This is a significant move, bringing the Infinity Ward reboot – a pivotal title in the Call of Duty franchise’s resurgence—to the subscription service. The inclusion of this title alone will undoubtedly attract new subscribers and reinvigorate interest among existing ones.

Content continues, departures loom

The influx continues through April, with Little Rocket Lab and Sopa: Tale of the Stolen Potato arriving on April 21. Vampire Crawlers and Kiln will also be added to the lineup shortly after. However, it's not all additions. Several titles, including Ashen, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, and, crucially, Grand Theft Auto V, are scheduled to depart Game Pass on April 15, a reminder of the revolving nature of the service. The impending loss of GTA V, a consistently popular title, suggests Microsoft is carefully balancing its library to maintain subscriber value.

The sheer volume of releases in April highlights Microsoft’s commitment to Game Pass as a core pillar of its gaming strategy.
