Golden Globes 2022: The Power of the Dog and Belfast top cinema nominations

Considered the back room of the Oscars since they set a first real trend, the Golden Globes unveiled their 2022 nominations, including several Netflix films such as The Power of the Dog, at the top of the nominations with Belfast, or Don’t Look Up and two frenchies: Marion Cottilard for Annette and Alexandre Desplat for The French Dispatch.

But this year, the ceremony will have a special flavor since it will not a priori be broadcast on American television, the historic partner of the Golden Globes, NBC, having withdrawn following revelations on the internal practices of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which brings together journalists from the foreign press based in Hollywood.

HFPA in turmoil

Criticized for its governance, organization and recruitment, but above all for its lack of diversity in its ranks, the HFPA is thus in the midst of a crisis. Several media and artists have also indicated that they intend to boycott the ceremony.

On its website, the association said about this a few days ago: “Over the past eight months, the HFPA has completely revised its bylaws, implementing sweeping changes in ethics and code of conduct, diversity, equity and inclusion, governance, l membership, and more. Recently, the HFPA admitted its largest and most diverse group to date, consisting of 21 new members, all of whom are voting for the Golden Globes for the first time.“

Despite the threats of boycott, the HFPA therefore insisted on ensuring the show and it is on January 9 that the 79th Golden Globes will be held, of which you can find all the cinema nominations below.
