Golden Globes 2023: House of the Dragon and Abbott Elementary crowned best series!

Kevin Costner and Zendaya were rewarded for their roles in Yellowstone and Euphoria.

The Golden Globes made their big comeback on American television tonight (and in France on Canal Plus), after being boycotted last year by the NBC channel. An 80 ceremony which was held exceptionally on a Tuesday, and not on Sunday to avoid competition from the last game of the American football regular season, and which saw The Fabelmans and The Banshees of Inisherin triumph on the cinema side.

On the series side, the big winner of the Golden Globes 2023 has clearly been Abbott Elementary. This mockumentary-style sitcom tells the story of an idle (and mostly black) school in Philadelphia. This ABC show is very little known in France, where it is broadcast on Disney Plus, but it won three awards out of its five nominations! Besides the Golden Globes for Best Musical or Comedy Series, Quinta Brunsonwho is also the creator of the show, received the award for best comic actress, and Tyler James Williams Best Supporting Actor.

The award for Best Drama Series went to House of the Dragonand despite its success, it was the other big surprise of the evening. Game Of Thrones had never had this honor in 8 seasons! Only Peter Dinklage had received a Golden Globe for his role as Tyrion Lannister in 2012, otherwise the series had always left the ceremony empty-handed. The showrunner Miguel Sapochnik, who went on stage accompanied by actresses Milly Alcock and Emma D’Arcy, did not hide his astonishment. He had apparently not prepared a speech and paid tribute to Severancethe awesome Apple TV series. House of the Dragon also faced The Crown, Better Call Saul and ozark.

HBO did not stop there since Zendaya she received the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama to Euphoriawhile The White Lotus won in the mini-series category, also with the prize for best supporting actress for Jennifer Coolidgeone of four new awards launched this year.

Julia Garner won Best Supporting Actress for ozark, and Amanda Seyfried Best Actress in a Miniseries for The Dropout.
