Bad Bunny and his “A summer without you” leads (with 10) the nominations for the Latin Grammy 2022

(CNN Spanish) – Bad Bunny may not have someone in his summer, but what he does lack – at the end of the season – are Latin Grammy nominations.

The Latin Recording Academy announced this Tuesday that the interpreter of “Little Eyes” leads the nominations for the 23rd edition of the awards. It has 10 mentions in categories such as two of the main ones: album of the year and recording of the year.

Rauw Alejandro follows in the general count with eight nominations, the same amount obtained by Rosalía and with which she becomes the female artist with the most mentions in this edition of the awards.

Christina Aguilera, with her return to Spanish after two decades, shares 7 nominations with Jorge Drexler; while Camilo, the biggest nominee of 2021, appears in six categories.

Among the producers and composers with the most nominations, Edgar Barrera stands out with nine and Jorge Luis Chacín, Julio Reyes Copello and Tainy with seven.

Diversity, a sample of the Latin Grammy 2022

The nominations at the 23rd edition of the Latin Grammys show the current musical diversity of Latin music. Although it is true that the genre that has been the most popular commercially – urban – has an unequivocal presence in the awards, pop, salsa, singer-songwriter album, alternative, among others, can also be found in the main categories.

“I am very excited to see that this year there are several of the multiple nominees who are also very successful commercially. This leads us to be very excited that we are going to have a great celebration,” said Manuel Abud, president of the Latin Grammys, in an interview via Zoom with Zona Pop CNN.

The Academy received 18,000 works for 53 categories to award. Although this is a high number, it does not set a record in the enrollment process, one that was set during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

“There are 18,000 pieces that have to be classified, listened to and later voted on. There is no doubt that the amount of talent out there is impressive. During the pandemic we had 20,000, because obviously during the pandemic the artists stayed in the studio and were not on tour, because good or bad they are already in full activity. So this, the truth, I am very excited about, because it means that the creativity and intense work continues on the part of the artistic community”, added Abud.

Christina Aguilera’s return to the nominations

One of the biggest nominees for this installment is Christina Aguilera. Perhaps for some it is not surprising to see her in the categories, especially after releasing her first album in Spanish in two decades from her at the beginning of the year.

This is the first time since 2001 that Christina Aguilera has been nominated for a Latin Grammy. That year, the singer with Ecuadorian roots won the Latin Grammy for Best Female Pop Album for “My reflection”.

Last year, Xtina returned to the stage of the Latin Grammys for a spectacular presentation of her single “Pa’ mis chicas”, along with Becky G, Nicki Nicole and Nathy Peluso. A performance that evidently won over the Academy members as the single is nominated for two of the main categories, song and recording of the year.
