“I can buy myself flowers. Write my name in the sand. Talk to myself for hours. Yes, some things you don’t understand. I can take me dancing. I can hold my own hand. Yes, I can love myself better than you can.” Lyrics sung with a rhythm that seems to be a response to the song When I Was Your Man of Bruno Mars.
We still don’t know if Flowers it will have a sample of the Mars song, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone that this was the case. There are several artists who in recent times have used the sample technique when composing and producing their singles.. Reworking elements of a song and making it your own is a complicated task, but one that has often resulted in success.

The fifth album by the American rapper, nominated for 8 Grammys, features samples and elements in 6 songs from his repertoire. Between these June from Florence and The Machine and elements from i want you played by Marvin Gaye.
Rappers Jack Harlow, Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat used samples in their singles, First Class, Super Freaky Girl Y Vegas, respectively. The common denominator between these three artists is that they took elements from well-known songs (glamorous Fergie’s, super freak by Rick James and Hound Dog by Big Mama Thornton) and were positioned among the most listened to in 2022 in the genre.
Frank Ocean and Kanye West, two of the most acclaimed artists for their albums, have incorporated this technique into their musical projects in several of their songs. Ocean in your ultra nostalgia samples greats like Radiohead, Coldplay, Eagles and MGMT. While West has used Ms Lauryn Hill, Daft Punk and Michael Jackson.
Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande, two of pop’s most influential artists have also used the sampler in huge hits. break my heartwith a rate of Need You Tonight of INXS, and 7 rings with a reference to My Favorite Things of the novice rebelrespectively.
