Uruguayan singer-songwriter George Drexler will sing along with the British Elvis Costello at the award ceremony Latin Grammy 2022which will be held on the 17th in Las Vegas (Nevada), the Latin American artist announced to EFE.
“I’m going to go to the Latin Grammys with my band, I’m going to sing at the Latin Grammys, I’m very happy. I’m going to sing with a guest who is also a kind of dream,” Drexler, nominated for nine awards for his latest album ‘Tinta y Tiempo’.
George Drexlerwho is in New York, where a concert tour in the United States begins this Tuesday, says that when they proposed to sing at the ceremony, they also asked him with whom he would like to share the stage and song.
“Can I aim high?” Drexler asked them, to which the organizers told him to try.
“And I called Elvis Costellowith whom he had worked on his album ‘Spanish Model’ and had worked very closely with him on the adaptation of a song,” said the artist, who has already taken the ten songs of his new work to various Latin American countries.

Jorge Drexler added that when the ‘This Year’s Model’ interpreter said yes, he couldn’t believe it.
“He told me with a lot of joy and a lot of willingness, and with a lot of desire to do things. The truth is that I can’t believe it. I’ve been rehearsing with him for a few days, here in New York, talking a lot with him on the phone, organizing it , making an adaptation of the song that we have to sing”, he adds, before warning that the song they will perform is “a surprise”.
For Drexler, Costello is “an absolutely delightful person, with a degree of humility that resets any perception one can have of a musical idol.”
He assures that “he acts with a naturalness that is totally disarming”, to the point, he says, that it seems that Costello is not aware of his own transcendence.
“She is a rare bird, she has a kind of wonderful blindness to her transcendence, it is as if she does not see her. It seems to me the most brilliant vital attitude in this work,” he points out, before insisting that these days of coexistence with Costello are being for him “a life lesson”.

The nominees this year are distributed in 53 categories and were selected from the more than 18,000 applications submitted, according to the institution, which recalled that the compositions must have been published between June 1 of last year and May 31 of this 2022 .
