The Latin Recording Academy honors Marco Antonio Solís as Person of the Year 2022 in the 23rd edition of its awards ceremony, where he will also receive the Award of Excellence. This award is also shared by other Latin music icons such as Ruben Blades, who was honored last year, and others such as Juanes, Maná, Alejandro Sanz and Marc Anthony.

The five-time Latin Grammy winner will be able to celebrate the recognition with his loved ones and friends at a private dinner, while at the gala Los Bukis and other artists are expected to perform Solís’ greatest hits in different musical genres.

This dinner will raise profits for the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation, which provides financial support to young Latinos who want to start in the music industry. The Latin Academy confirmed that this year they broke the attendance record for this event, so good results are expected.

“Marco Antonio Solís is a living legend and one of the most emblematic figures in Latin music. He is an artist who transcends generational gaps moving millions of people with his lyrics that inspire greater acceptance and understanding. That is why we are proud to honor him as the 2022 Latin Academy Person of the Year,” said Manuel Abud, CEO of The Latin Recording Academy.

In addition to the great tribute that the musician will receive tomorrow, the Mexican composer and singer-songwriter has been exhibiting his musical legacy of more than 40 years at the Grammy Museum since May of this year with ‘Y Para Siempre… Marco Antonio Solís’, an exhibition which will continue until March 2023.

The tour through the history of the interpreter has five stops: Roots of Michoacán, The solo artist, His voice and more, The most loved and A miles from Michoacán. The exhibit includes the green tuxedo that Solís wore while she performed with Los Bukis; the first prize awarded to Los Bukis for Discos Melody, in the 70s; the Mexican’s gold-studded jacket; handwritten letters and other relevant objects in the career of Marco Antonio Solís.

The artist said during the opening of the exhibition that he felt grateful to The Latin Academy, he also described the recognition as “a gift from God”, because he feels that it came at the best time.

“It made me reflect a lot on the road traveled, things that we sometimes forget, song lyrics just as I wrote them, still with their erasures, very classic of me, changing some phrases for others, seeing costumes that I used in different important events , that’s when I realize the route”, commented the honoree during the event.
