Paulina Aguirre competes for the Latin Grammy with The Earth Cries

More than a decade after her first nomination, Paulina Aguirre is once again a candidate for a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Folk Album thanks to her recent work entitled La Tierra Llora, in which she shares a nomination with artists of the stature of Natalia Lafourcade. , Pedro Aznar and Susana Baca, among others.

After having won a similar award in 2009, for her Christian album in Spanish Esperando tu voz, the Ecuadorian artist is recognized again, a fact that provokes emotion, but at the same time a feeling of responsibility towards her audience.

“(Being nominated) It is the opportunity to be a better person, a better artist, to continue making music, composing. I see it as an opportunity, I think that as the years go by you feel more grateful that you continue to support yourself and follow it breaking,” said the artist in an interview with El Sol de México.

His path of almost three decades has not been easy, he confessed; especially when defending his musical proposal, with or without the support of a record company.

“It is difficult when you are not in a record company. At some point I was with Universal, sometimes the budgets that a record company has to put on your album are different from those that you manage as an independent artist, that has been the most difficult, the not being able to do the things you want because there is not enough budget,” he said.

But money has not limited his creativity, he has been able to do a lot, with little. His secret to conquering the public is to be as transparent and real as possible, leaving his essence in each work he does.

“At the end of the day, music transcends and leaves its niche of followers, who are really faithful and the music that leaves a legacy, is the one with which you manage to captivate a generation through a message, that message will be generating a change.

“This is how I use my talent, always helping others through lyrics, I would never use music to denigrate anyone, make fun of or make fun of,” he said.

His new album was written in 2017, it talks about a deadly virus that stalks the entire society. Obviously, it became more relevant after the world faced the Covid-19 pandemic. The theme of this album is something that, says the artist, could have been like a premonition.

In addition to attending the Latin Grammy ceremony on November 17 in Las Vegas, the Ecuadorian is preparing new musical projects that she plans to promote throughout Latin America.

“I need to bring my music in a consistent way to all Latinos, that it has an enhancement for the type of message and the quality of music that is being made.

“Hispanic artists deserve the space because we offer music with good quality and excellent production,” said the also winner of the Silver Gaviota at the Viña Del Mar Festival in 2016.
