The news comes hot on the heels of U.S. President Donald Trump's reported call for a revival of '80s and '90s actionMovies, with Bloodsport itself allegedly among his favorites.

Directed by Newt Arnold, the original starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Frank Dux, a U.S. army captain and ninjutsu aficionado who finds himself competing in an illegal martial arts tournament in Hong Kong.

Bloodsport was known for its over-the-top action, including epic punches and kicks, with Van Damme's infamous split-legged nut punch standing out. It's unclear if Coel's remake will closely follow the original's, ahem, crotch-centric moves.

Coel's involvement suggests the new Bloodsport will bring a fresh, modern perspective to the film's themes and style. With the creator of I May Destroy You at the wheel, fans can expect a thought-provoking take on the action genre.
