Christian Bale is ready to pass the baton, quite literally, for a new take on Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino's upcoming 'American Psycho' reboot.

Bale praises original adaptation, welcomes fresh interpretaion

Speaking at the premiere of his latest film 'The Bride' in New York City, the actor voiced his support for Guadagnino's bold decision to reimagine the iconic role made famous by Bale's 2000 performance in Mary Harron's adaptation.

'Whoever wants to give it a shot, give it a pop,' Bale told The Hollywood Reporter. 'I loved making it with Mary Harron so many years back. So many fantastic memories of it all.' Although he hasn't been approached for the new film, he expressed admiration for Guadagnino's willingness to diverge from his own portrayal.

'I don't know anything about it, but all the best to 'em. I like brave people,' Bale said, praising the director's courageous approach to the project.

Guadagnino's vision for the film reportedly takes a vastly different path from the original, with Bret Easton Ellis, author of the 1991 novel that inspired both adaptations, revealing on his podcast that two high-profile actors have turned down the role of Bateman due to not wanting to be seen as replacing Bale.

Despite the challenges in finding someone to fill his shoes, Guadagnino's decision to create a distinct, standalone film could pay off in the end. The novel and the 2000 movie already diverge in significant ways, leaving ample room for creative exploration.
